Chess in the Park

Chess in the Park is a Discord-native board game activity that allows friends to play the classic game of chess with unlimited participants watching and two players actively playing, all within a voice channel.

Built a clean, high-contrast board optimized for clarity inside Discord’s interface constraints. Turns and moves are surfaced without overwhelming the player, maintaining focus on the board.

Designed a centralized lobby that allows players to manage multiple asynchronous chess matches directly within Discord. Each card surfaces board state, opponent, and turn status at a glance, reducing friction and enabling quick re-engagement. Designed filtering and sorting tools to help players quickly find specific matches. The layout balances information density with readability, supporting both casual and power users managing multiple games.

Creating a match with the slew of options Discord offered. Players are able to play the game at any level they please.

When implementing the UI we made sure to setup each of the elements to allow for skinning to lighten the load on creating new themes.
